Type of Windows XP Disc to Boot from

I needed to boot into my Windows XP Pro computer because it was not starting
on my desktop GATEWAY computer. I also have a DELL Latitude Laptop that came
with Windows XP Home Edition, but it is OEM so I have a OEM Disc. I used the
OEM Disc to try to boot up the desktop GATEWAY Windows XP Pro but it would
not boot up. Does it matter if it is OEM disc being used on a differnet
computer?

A lot of OEM disks are keyed to the bios on the original computer. Some
won't boot, some will give an error message, and some will attempt to
install, but get corrupted or not finish the install. You're probably lucky
it didn't boot or you could have ended up in a worse condition.

Besides, using a Home CD on a Pro computer has its own issues, unless you
were just hoping to see if it boots. After that, it wouldn't have been much
use anyway.

Did you not get disks with the Gateway?
