Type conversion failure

I have Access 2003 and Excel 2003. I am trying to import an Excel
spreadsheet into a new Access table. My Excel spreadsheet consists of
eight columns. One of my columns in an employee code that is either
alpha or numeric. In Excel, I formatted this column as "text." When
importing the spreadsheet into Access, all data rows import except the
rows containing the alpha officer code. Access creates an error table
with "Type conversion failure" as the error reason.

I tried it again, reformatting the officer code column in Excel to
"general," but still get the same error.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

One thing you can try is to put an ' before all the numerical data in the
column. This will make it a text field instead of numerical and then import
into access. This is a quick fix for a one time import.

Thanks. That would be OK for, as you say, a one-time import. But this
activity be a daily event and there are about 200-300 records per day.

I would suggest linking the excel data, making a table in access, and then do
an append or update query.
