I recently upgraded from 2000 to XP. Is it possible that
I did not erase 2000 and it just take up major space? Is
there a way to check on that?

See if you still have a WINNT folder in the root directoy
of Drive C and see if there's anything in it . . . if
there is, you didn't remove 2000 . . .

I looked up my root directory and did not find WINNT. does that mean it is no longer on my system?

Also it should be rather obvious, if it's not there, well... it's not there.

WINNT is the folder Win200 is (normally) installed to; if it is not
there, neither is Win2000

It may be that there is a line left in Boot.ini that is pointing to a
win2000 installation still. Go to Control Panel - System - Advanced
and click Settings in Startup and Error. There click Edit to load
boot.ini into Notepad.

If there is a line that has
.. . . .partition(n)\WINNT. . .Windows 2000
delete the line. If there is a similar line, that refers to Win2000 but
has some other folder, check *that* folder to be empty
