Two well-known, persistent bugs in Windows 2000?

I've noticed these two problems on several Windows 2000 Pro computers,
but I haven't found anyone really bother about it yet:

(1)
chkdsk will sometimes not show the final line of report, the one just
before disk space part is reported (e.g. "...has finished checking the
disk and found no problem."), therefore the output will be:

[...]
Index verification completed.
CHKDSK is verifying security descriptors (stage 3 of 3)...
Security descriptor verification completed.

14860093 KB total disk space.
[...]

In the above example, the one-line sentence containing the "no
problem" part or actual problem description should be shown after the
"...verification completed." line, but it was omitted for some reason.
This doesn't happen every time, but very often, and I wasn't able to
find any typical circumstances to isolate the issue.

(2)
After applying one of the last updates/patches, the Windows 2000
system will not play startup and shutdown sounds anymore. I suppose
it's because the sound driver is now (presumably) started after the
sound is "played", or terminated (on shutdown) before the shutdown
sound is played.

Any comments on this?

same effect here. I have posted about his before in this forum, and
have not come to any better conclusion. Your suggestion is bettere
than anything I have seen to date and may be the correct answer.
