Two video cards

Trying to work out which one can handle more recent graphics. Two AGP
cards we have available for my son's PC.

1) e-Geforce FX 5500 256 MB AGP card.

2) PNY GeForce 6600 GT DDR3 128 MB AGP.

I'm not sure which has the most recent/most robust components.

The 6600 is lightyears beyond the FX5500, technology wise. HOWEVER, the
6600 is minimally vista ready, if it has 256MB or more of RAM. In other
words, I'd suggest you buy neither. If you already have the cards, use the
6600. If you haven't bought yet, and want to stick to the nvidia line, buy
a number higher than 6600, and make sure it has 256MB or more of RAM. -Dave

The GF6600GT is the newer/better, the FX5500 is/was a budget card(?)

Well, according to this page (3Dmark2005 and following pages)
http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/07/05/vga_charts_vii/page4.html
(the GF5500 does not show up on that page, but it should be way off the
bottom)

But you should be able to get a GF7800GS in AGP version also, and that
outperforms the GF6600GT
http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html?modelx=33&model1=540&model2=543&chart=230

But the price will rise also. In Finland a Club 3D 7800GS 256MB AGP 256MB
256bit DDR-3 costs about 280eur,
