Two Vexing Little Irritations

I have two problems and would appreciate some help.

Problem #1:

When I start Windows, upon booting a box appears on my screen with the
following message. Nothing happens until I ckick a button that says "OK"

Windows cannot find 'C:/Documents'. Make sure you typed the name correctly
and then try
again. To search for a file, click the Start button and then click Search.

I have to click OK for my computer to keep booting. How do I make this go
away?

Problem #2:

When I start Windows, and at some other times, I a box pops up. The title
bar reads: Windows - No Disk

Below that, there is a message that reads:

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive.

Below that, there are three buttons. They read, Cancel, Try Again, Continue.

I must click Cancel between 10 and 20 times during the boot process or
everything will freeze.

How do I stop this from happening?

Thanks for any help.

Do you get this when you see your desktop? if you see your desktop and get
this messages then it has something to do with your startup programs. Go to
start/run and type msconfig then go to startup tab. Removed the one that is
not in use.

First things first. Thank you for paying attention. I appreciate it very
much.

Problem #1 happens right at the beginning, i.e., when I see the blue screen
but no icons. Problem #2 happens at various times without warning.

I did what you suggested (running msconfig) and I got a long list of
commands. Some I recognized but many I did not recognize. Each had a
checkbox next to it, and each box was checked. So I unchecked the boxes
whose commands pointed to 'C:\Documents. I also unchecked a couple of boxes
where there was no command listed. Then I rebooted. This did not help. I
still encountered both problems upon startup.

Any more ideas? Again, I truly appreciate your attention. This has been a
real irritation.

You have been to Msconfig and found nothing, yet it looks like a
problem with poor quoting in your Startup.
You should not have a folder called C:\Documents (and I assume you do
not) so it is a "C:\Documents and Settings" folder reference that is
probably in error.
Go back to Msconfig again and ensure everything is checked and exit
Msconfig, then:

Start-Run-msinfo32
Click the + beside Software Environment to expand.
Click Startup Programs
Ctrl+A to Select All, Ctrl+C to Copy.
Paste that information in your message.

I cannot see anything obvious that points to one item.
Disable the ones in Msconfig that the folder starts with:
c:\program files\
Leave the ones like:
"c:\program files

Reboot and see if it stops. If so, selectively enable those until you
find which one causes it.
You can then add the quotation marks in the Registry if you are
familiar with Regedit. If not, report back.

....Alan

Ooops!
Ignore my last post. I am crossing you with someone else with a
similar problem.

I don't see anything there that mentions C:\Documents
Did you disable such items?

....Alan

You mean you disabled them so they wouldn't show in the list you
posted?
I guess I wasted my time looking.
I am afraid I cannot help.

Your only hope seems to be selectively disable all other items and
keep rebooting until you can narrow it down.

Please understand: I'm a computer user, not a computer programmer. These
things truly mystify and frustrate me, which is why I came to this newsgroup
for help. Anything you can do to help me will be much appreciated, and I
thank you for the attention you have paid to my problem thus far. If you
look at my message in response to adoys above, sent on 12/16/2005 4:53 p.m.,
you'll see that I explained what I did. For you, I went back to msconfig and
undid it. Here is the information as it existed when I posted my very first
message. I hope it helps:

Report back when you have discovered it if you need more help.

Sorry, your dates and times mean little to me as I am probably in a
different time zone (Tasmania) but I did read all other responses.
