Subject: Two Quick Q's after installing SP4

Hello:

After I installed Win2K Service Pack 4, all is fine except for two minor
problems that are driving me a little
nuts and was hoping someone could give me a suggestion.

Problem #1:
When I click on a Desktop Shortcut to a website, it says "file not
associated with a program to perform this
action". When I go into Explorer/Tools/File Types there are two extentions
associated with the two "Internet
Shortcuts" file types (both have the IE Icon next to them). The first
"Internet Shortcut" has "N/A" for it's
extention (the "change and delete" buttons are grayed out) and the second
has "URL" (the "change and delete"
buttons are active). Also, both shortcuts open with "rundll32.exe
shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l" in Advanced, but the
"URL" Shortcut says "Opens with "Shell Doc Object and Contr...?" under
details while the "N/A" shortcut is
blank under details.

I followed the procedures in the MS Knowledge Base--172223 - "Cannot Run
Shortcuts from the Start Menu or from
the Desktop" (values listed below) but my Registry was fine so I was leaning
toward just deleting the "URL"
shortcut but wanted to see if anyone had a better idea before I mess things
up even more?

[KB 172223: Run Registry Editor, (Regedt32.exe) and verify the following
registry entries exist.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Exefile\Shell\Open Default Value =
EditFlags:REG_BINARY:00 00 00 00
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Exefile\Shell\Open\Command Default Value = <No
Name>:REG_SZ:"%1"%*]

Problem #2:
I have configured this before but can't remember and can't find in Help, the
MS Site or my notes...but how do
you keep the cookies folder from opening everytime logon to the internet
(total brain freeze here)?

Thanks for reading all this and any suggestions you can give,
Kent

This is an answer to my own question that I found on another newsgroup
(http://computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/8633.html - Response #4)

Reset IE by going to Tools/Internet Options/Programs/and then enable "IE
should check to see if it's the default browser" (I also selected the Reset
Web Settings but don't think it's necessary).

Hope this helps someone--was driv'n me crazy ))
