Two questions: read-only and disappearing comments

1. Why would a Word document all of a sudden become a read-only document,
when I didn't ask for that? I've had to re-save the same document over and
over.

2. When I pass over yellowed text (to which I have previously inserted a
Comment), the little box that tells me what the Comment says is no longer
there. It used to be. Where did it go? How do I get it back?

I'm using MS Word 97.

1. Did you copy the document from a CD? If so, I believe the read-only
setting is enabled by default.

2. Did you activate the option to show screentips in the Options dialog box?
