XP Systems. "Home" on Desk-Top, "Professional" on Note-Book
1) I want to use 'briefcases' for documents as well as pictures, to
transfer files between the two PCs via IEEE-1394 cable. I am not able - even
though the network connection screen indicated that I am connected, - to
transfer files from the lap-top to the desk-top and visa versa via the
subject connection. The status window - from the network system window -
shows traffic both ways but, when highlighting a file or briefcase on the
desk-top or the note-book and clicking 'move' or 'copy' folder, the
drop-down window does not list the other computer nor any files or folders
on the other computer. So consequently I can not transfer files via
IEEE-1394, I must copy onto disk and transfer using this cumbersome
procedure. I also try to initialize and use the printer - connected to the
desk-top - from the lap-top but again, no response.
Can anybody give me some: "First does this, than do that, etc" help and tell
me correct procedures so that I can do any of the above. I tried to use the
Network wizard but it gave up on me too. Said:" Can not complete
connections."
2) I also tried to install PartitionMagic # 8 on my desk-top and my
note-book and got an error message, a virus program may be the reason why
the disk can not be partitioned. I asked the designer support service for
advice, describing symptoms, error messages etc and the e-mailed me
following answer: "The virus program it is talking about is most likely the
bios virus protection itself, and not a "program". You would need to find
an entry for boot sector, or boot virus protection, that is enabled, and
disable it."
I am not an expert and hear often the warning:" Don't get into the System
and in particular the Bios - Whatever Bios means, - so I am frightened to
touch any of the operating program, unless I am guided on a detailed step
for step bases:' Now do this, than that, and this will happen and if it does
not happen than do this, and this, and this and no harm will be done."
Can anybody help with those two issues? Please
Regards
