1. AUTORUN won't work with my secondary CD-ROM (my main CD-
RW CD-ROM autoruns (autoplays) correctly). I want to turn
ON AUTORUN for my CD-R CD-ROM as well. I wish to have
AUTORUN working with BOTH CD-ROMs together. Can I? If
so, whet are the steps needed to do it?

2. REGEDIT won't come up when I type REGEDIT in the box in
the RUN panel. I get an error message that the file
regedit.exe cannot be found. I discovered the default
path for REGEDIT command was C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
\dllcache\regedit.exe . When I added the SP1 update to
Windows XP PRO, the file had moved, and the path became
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\regedit.exe . The
dllcache subfolder in original WINDOWS XP PRO was
deleted. How can I fix the REGEDIT command so that it
will work when I type it in the RUN panel box with the SP1
update installed? Please advise on both issues via E-
Mail. Thank you! CPRIII

Hi,

Sorry, I don't do email support.

1) Right click the CD drive in Windows Explorer (or double-click "My
Computer" and do it from here) and choose properties. Go to the autoplay
tab, adjust your settings here. To reset the system defaults, you can run
this tool:
ftp://12.107.147.141/WinXP%20Autorun%20fix/

2) Regedit.exe should be in the C:\Windows folder, you can expand a new copy
if necessary. Start/run msconfig, click on "expand file" (general tab)

File to expand:
From: X:\I386
To: %windir%

Where X is whatever letter is assigned your CD drive (you need your WinXP CD
for this), change it accordingly. If your system was preinstalled, you may
find this instead on the hard drive under C:\Windows\I386. If so, change the
"from" line accordingly. Reboot when finished.

The proper path for regedit.exe is c:\windows.
Copy it from where ever it is to there.

The version you have (had?) in dllcache is the backup.
Windows uses it for automatic restore should the original
be lost or corrupted.
The version in service pack files is the SP1 update.

MSoft people have produced a program to check and repair the Autoplay
side of the system - available among other places at Mike Kolitz's site
