Two issues with FP 2003

Gary

I have two issues that I seriously need help with. Hope some kind
souls here will offer.

First, I have a domain at http://www.owlnet.net with two sub webs
established. One is http://discuss.owlnet.net
(http://www.owlnet.net/discuss) and the other is
http://teamamiga.owlnet.net. (http://www.owlnet.net/teamamiga) The
teamamiga sub web operates correctly as far as I can tell.

However, the FP discussion board is giving me fits. The menu items
do not all work properly and I can not get posts to automatically
show up when someone clicks on "Contents". Refreshing the page also
does not work. There is one trial post called "welcome" in the
discussion forum as a test.

I need some help in figuring out what I have done wrong.

Second issue is that I wish to have menu button links from the main
domain to the sub webs and vice versa that show up on the left hand
menu buttons. Is this doable or do I have to make hyperlinks in the
text of a web page?

I could find no way to grab a sub web page and add that to the
navigation structure of the main web site, in FrontPage 2003, at
least. FP 2003 opens a new instance when I click on the sub webs.

I would like to have all three webs easily seen from and connected
to each other if possible.

Thanks for all who offer assistance!

I have a feeling that the redirection from
http://www.owlnet.net/discuss to http://discuss.owlnet.net
is the source of your problem. Try browsing the "native"
address http://www.owlnet.net/discuss and see if the
discussion Web works from there.

BTW, discuss.owlnet.net is a subdomain, not a subweb. The
subweb is a http://www.owlnet.net/discuss.

In most respects, subwebs are independent from each other
and from the parent Web. However, to add any sort of URL
located outside the current Web or subweb, try this?

1. Open the Web or subweb that will contain the hyperlink.
2. Switch to Navigation view.
3. Right-click the node under which you want the external
link to reside, then select Add Existing Page from the
shortcut menu.
4. When the Insert Hyperlink dialog box appears,
hand-type the URL of the external page you want to
include in Navigation view.

Are they not the same to Frontpage? I set up a subdomain on teh
server for discuss.owlnet.net just as I did with
teamamiga.owlnet.net. The latter wiorks, the former does not for
some reason?

Are you sure, then, that the FrontPage Server Extensions are installed
on the Web server? If not, that's most likely the problem.

Otherwise, given your confusion as to what constitutes a subweb, it
may be that your discussion submissions aren't going where you expect
them to be. Look around both the root Web and your subweb to see if
and where the pages are appearing.

Two more things to try are:

o Open the subweb that contains the discussion, and then choose
Recalculate
Hyperlinks from the Tools menu.

o Open the "post" page for your discussion, right-click the HTML
form,
choose Form Properties, and then under Where To Store Results, make
sure Send To Other: Discussion Form Handler is selected.

Are they not the same to Frontpage?

No, not even close.

A subweb is a designated folder tree that FrontPage manages as a
single body of content.

A subdomain redirection has nothing to do with FrontPage. It's a
configuration within the Web server that tells the Web server to
redirect requests for one URL to a different URL.
I set up a subdomain on the server for discuss.owlnet.net just as I did
with teamamiga.owlnet.net. The latter wiorks, the former does not for
some reason?

Does teamamiga.owlnet.net contain a discussion Web? I had the
impression it didn't.
