Dear Ellen, do you ever come back to read the comments here
and on all the other newsgroups you SPAM on a weekly basis?
I have crossposted this just so I won't have to reply to all
the other newsgroups with the warning that you're SPAM may
be a lure to a website that will compromise the privacy or
security of the users.

No, Jim, I don't think Ellen ever comes back to read anything. He/she/it
just SPAMS and leaves.

Jim,
Please back up your comment re spam (not SPAM) with some
verifiable information. Or are you just pissed off? Please
cite the specific violation is an aup or whatever you have
to refer to.
I'm interested because I haven't caught that particular
Ellen you referenced as having spammed. What am I missing?
I've been to both those sites and found them useful,
non-invasive, no cookie invasion, no port scans, no attempt
to collect any sort of personal information, and otherwise
reputable, not spammy at all.
If you want to be heard, you have to be factual and up
front. The particular posting you quoted is a response to
another person' inquiry.

Pop;

This Ellen person doesn't seem to post any questions or answers, only
advertisements for these two sites.

Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary
defines spam>>>>>

[[Main Entry: 1spam
Function: noun
Etymology: from a skit on the British television series Monty Python's
Flying Circus in which chanting of the word Spam (trademark for a canned
meat product) overrides the other dialogue
:unsolicited usually commercial e-mail sent to a large number of addresses

Main Entry: 2spam
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): spammed; spamming
transitive verb : to send spam to
intransitive senses : to send spam]]
=========

I believe this qualifies.
1. It's unsolicited
2. It's commercial

That means we can insult her/she/he/it all we want! ;-)

Every few days she posts the identical NEW message simply
offering these two websites. No real description, not in
response to any question. She never replies to any replies
because she doesn't seem to monitor these groups, she only
posts.

That IS SPAM. I am just posting a warning to the people who
might be tempted to click on her links because , 1. You can
get viruses that way. 2. You don't know anything about
their privacy policy. 3. The method of advertising her
business in not acceptable newsgroup practice.

Re # 1: For those who may have visited those sites, I am
pretty well protected, and visiting those sites with a
"safe" browser detected absolutely nothing "ungood", at
least at that time. Normal cookie activity, nothing bad
again, and not many of them. No probes, no firewall hits,
etc.. I looked at each cookie as it arrived & saw nothing
unusual. That doesn't mean it'll stay that way though: I'd
suggest avoiding them; nothing unique about them, really.

It's probably someone trying to drive up their web site
hits; maybe they're getting compensation from the number of
hits or something. Definitely the wrong way to do it,
'cause people like me add to my "never land on" list, which
I share with many people (friends, relatives, whjoever
happens into my site,. etc.).

My feeling exactly, it may be harmless, but it does seem to
unethical in the way they are being promoted.
