I had some problems with my computer, so I wanted to start fresh. I saved
all my documents and photos and reinstalled windows. Now when my computer
boots up it asks to choose between two Windows XPs. When I choose the top
one everything seems to work except it shows two hardrives. One has 50G of
free space ( C drive). The other has only 180mb of free space (D drive).
Anytime I run something, at the bottom a popup shows, stating you are running
on low memory. How can I get rid of the d drive or transfer all the free
space from the c drive to the d drive.

When I choose the second drive, on the boot up, it trys to connect to the
internet and activate windows xp but it doesnt work. I want to delete this
one also. How do I go about and delete the second copy of windows xp.

Thanks

Hello Bass,

You can modify the boot ini and
remove the secondary and unwanted
boot entry: control panel>system>advance>start up/recovery option.

afterwards, you should simply move your
files off that unwanted hd and format
it like if it were a floppy drive....

1. Right-click on My Computer icon on desktop.
2. Click on Properties
3. Go to Advanced tab.
4. Click on "Settings" button in Startup and Recovery group.
5. In "Startup and Recovery" screen, click on Edit button to change
the Startup Options file.
6. Delete the entry for the OS you don't want to let boot.

You havent started a fresh, you have just installed a 2nd instance of win xp

Did you have 2 drives shown before?
Do you actually have 2 hard disks?
Is it a winxp cd or is it a recovery disk?

You did not install a clean copy, you installed a second copy. The best
option might be for you to start over with a clean install. First answer
the questions DL gave you. With that info we can suggest a course of
action.

No, I only had the C drive and not the D
I had two disks, because I have two computers of the same brand. I didnt
know which was which. And they were both winxp cd. Also, I have deleted the
second xp as stated above. Thanks for the help so far.

When you reinstalled XP you did not install as an upgrade but as a "clean
install" - custom install - the installation created another partition
(drive) in which XP was installed. Result - two installations of XP- one in
C one in D.
Boot.ini modified to list both XPs at boot.

When you say, unwanted hd and format it. Do you mean to move all my files
to C: which has more space then format C: ?

Again thanks for the help.
