1. I would like to have the IE7 icon show on the desktop so I can quickly go to Internet
Options with a right-click.
In XP you could configure this option in the custom desktop. That does not appear to be an option
in Vista, or I haven't found the access yet. Can some one point the direction?

2. I have not found how to get the My Pictures folder to display thumbnails. Large Icons is
close, but not on all computers. Can the folder be set to display thumbnails?

You can go to Control Panel | Classic View. Right click on Internet Options
| Create Shortcut. It will be sent to the desktop.
