two computers w/ XP...new computer : XP or Vista ?

I have a 3-yr old desktop with XP Pro for business applications, and wife has
a 1-yr old laptop w/ XP Media edition.
I have to purchase a new laptop, 1/3 business use & 2/3-personal use...not
into gaming. Some of my business applications are known to have "issues" with
Vista & Office 2007.

QUESTIONs :
1) considering that MS lifecycle for full XP support is limited to approx.
2009, what are the "pros & cons" of ordering the new laptop with XP Pro vs.
Vista Home Premium?
2) Is Vista Business worth the additional $100 compared to Vista Premium ?

Thanks in advance for your opinions - Ron

You may not find a laptop today that comes w/ XP, and if it comes w/ Vista
it MAY not even have drivers available for XP, so make sure before you buy
it.

All things being equal, I would stick w/ XP.

I have been tasked w/ "downgrading" dozens of Vista users, and every
single one has been OVER JOYED when they sit back down in front of their
machine for the first time and "it now finally works like it should".

Vista has very little to recommend itself...

There will be support for XP well beyond 2009. I still get updates
for 2000 Pro.

Depends on whether you need the extra features or not.

In your case I would get XP Pro. Make sure that is is Vista compatible and
if your want to upgrade to Vista in a year or so when there are less
problems and more drivers around it will be easy enough and not so expensive
to do. In the meantime your business doesn't loose any time because of vista
problems
