Two C:Windows/Temp folders

I just ran a NAV scan on my C drive and it came up clean. So far so
good. However, I noticed during the scan that a whole bunch of files in
a folder named Windows/Temp_2(2) were being scanned. What is this
Windows/Temp_2(2) folder and can I just delete it or empty it of all
files? It takes up about 500MB and the file dates are all April 2002.
Disk Clean Up did not empty it.

You can delete any file with an extension of TMP.

I must have not made my problem clear. The files in the Temp_2(2)
folder are all 'normal' files -- no TMP extensions. I was wondering if
it is OK to delete the folder?

Would it be too much trouble to give us several examples of these

files? Because I don't know what you mean by normal files. Under
normal circumstances this folder is where I.E. usually sticks a lot
of their temporary files which can be deleted. None of them are .temp
or .tmp. If you use the box in I.E. to delete cookies on exit they do
not wind up there. I do not know about other browsers because I don't
let any of them park cookies and crap like this around. And again
normally there shouldn't be two files unless you have so much crap in
number one that it has to go to number 2.

Here is a list of the folders under Windows/temp_2(2):
3DEEP(2), CD-ROM(2), IDE(2), Install(2), KEYBOARD, LAN,
MODEM, MOUSE, PC-CILLIN, SOUND, USB,UTILITY, VGA and WINDVD. There is
also a file Readme.txt.

For each of the above folders, there are subfolders, each with a
Readme.txt file and further subfolders containing files with the
extensions CAB, LIB and DAT along with other extensions. After careful
examination, each of the subfolders look suspiciosly like leftovers from
an aborted or failed attempt to do a repair install or the folders on
the CD for the motherboard. The creation date of the Temp_2(2) is April
2002 which about the time I changed out the motherboard and had to do a
repair/install to get XP running on the new board. I wonder if that is
just a coincidence.

BTW, my Windows/Temp folder has just a few things in it and is only 1.2
MB compared to the ~500MB of the temp-2() folder.

Anyway, I going to delete that sucker and see what happens. And YES, I
have ghosted my system drive to a partition on HDD2 just in case things
go haywire as is my normal practice.
