Twain Drivers for HP PSC 500

I need twain drivers for my HP PSC 500 (specifically for scanning). HP sent
me to MS. I understand Windox XP uses WIA drivers, but is there a TWAIN
substitute that works with XP? Can anybody help me?

When I installed mine, I opened PSP and it let me scan.
I don't remember having to install a separate TWAIN driver.
 
Thanks. I've been to this site and even spoke with HP. They stated that MS
didn't provide Twain drivers in XP. I've tried all of the things listed on
this site but still no Twain. I guess I have to buy a new scanner if I want
new programs to be able to talk to it.
