TV wonder VE

Folks - I'm sure this has been asked before. I just upgraded from an AIW
Rage Pro 128 to a Radeon 9800 Pro. And, since I had one, stuck in a TV
Wonder VE. All OK except the Sapphire disk crashes my PC every time.
Downloaded current catalyst drivers for 9800, installed OK. Then d'l DAO, TV
Wonder VE drivers, and MMC 9.03. Install all the above, and no TV. Try
again, doing a custom install this time, and TV is on the list, but nothing
happens when I run the TV application. The Configuration section telle me I
don't have DirectX - in fact I do, and all up to date. What am I missing?

Rest of the system is an Athlon XP1700+ with 768 Mb Ram.

I just took my VE card out.....again. I have had it work in the past, but
no more. Its more of a hassle to my system than its worth. I get a
scrambled tv picture no matter what efforts are taken. Im using a 9800 pro
also with mine.

What you may of have done is have it using the composite instead of the
cable input. When it starts, it defaults to one or the other. If no tv
signal is picked up the first time you set it up, it will default to
composite and not even recognize the tv/cable as an option. A real pain. I
often uninstall the software and re-install it. That way I ensure it will
try to check "everything" when I start it. If not, I get the "greyed out"
option for the cable in the properties for the program. Another program
that is free and loved by many others is DScaler. Do a google for it.
When/if my card did work, it was a superior picture and performance.

To note, Im using WinXP Pro. I have also tried the card on my other systems
and get mixed results on each one. Often quite different. The VE is a
troubled kid, sorry to not be more optimistic. Im now looking into the usb
version of their newer tv/capture card. I have enough pc power to deal with
it now.

good luck,

No, I didn't. I do now, and I've reinstalled the MMC, but to no effect. I'll
try removing everything and starting again in the right order.

OK. Removed everything, went to Device Manager and opted to show hidden
devices, removed all the ATI stuff there, except the 9800 drivers, removed
all software, ran clean-up tool. Re-installed everything in the correct
order, and it all works fine now. Thanks for the help!

Why is the icon in the task bar so poorly implemented now? Always used to
snap open quickly with my AIW, but now it reacts really slowly!

No matter. Thanks again!
