TV Wonder Boot Problems

L

LannyL

I installed the ATI TV Wonder card yesterday and now my computer won't
boot.
I am running an Asus P4800 with a P4 2.4 and 1gig of ram.
The Bios is Award Medallion BIOS v6.0, ACPI revision 1004.
The OS is Windows XP pro, SP1
I installed the card as per the directions, but XP was unable to find a
usable driver on the included disc. I then restarted the computer and
installed the software on the included disc - all of the software relating
to the TV Wonder was installed. Upon restarting after installing the
software, the computer hangs...it gets as far as the black screen with
white text that lists the bios information and the primary and secondary
devices. It gets as far as detecting the devices, then it just hangs.

I can't get it to boot into start mode to uninstall the software, and I
can't get it to boot from a floppy to try to run the Norton Emergency
discs...I don't think it is getting to the point where it starts booting
the disks at all...

Any help would be enormously appreciated.

Thanks,
Lanny

How old is this card? I had problems with my TV Wonder about 4 years ago
with Win98. I did ultimately get it to work on that computer UNTIL I
installed XP - there was no driver support for the card at that time for
XP - AT ALL! So I removed it.

Until recently...

I happened upon a computer I am planning on using as a DVD player with many
additional features. Before purchasing a new TV card, I thought "what the
heck" and downloaded new XP drivers from ATI.com - viola! It works!

The point of the story is... did you get the latest drivers off of ATI's
website prior to installing them? I can't help you get the computer booting
again - I'll have to hope someone smarter than me can help you with that. I
would probably get on ATI's site and send them a support request email from
the computer you used to post this message and see if they can help.

Good luck!

Have you tried removing the ATI card from your computer then rebooting?

D'oh!! Thanks for stating the obvious....I just removed the card,
rebooted, shut down, replaced the card, and voila!! It's now up and
running....Maybe it just needed for the software to be installed before
the card itself...

Thanks to all for the suggestions,

Lanny

Don't use the drivers from the CD. Go to ATI's website and follow their
instructions to the letter.

I know your system worked fine after installing the new card but you might
want to recheck your cables from your hard disks to tyour MB. May be a poor
connection. Sounds like it is booting from the BIOS and then quiting. Worth
a try.

Is the ATI website broke?
Dave

No, it's not, but drivers won't help when the computer won't boot at
all...and I got many helpful responses here almost immediately which helped
solve the problem. In fact, that's why forums like this one exist.

Thanks for your constructive help.

This might be a stupid question, but have you removed the card? If it
is not getting any farther than you say, it is probably not software
related. If you have not already done so, I would take it out and see
if your computer will then boot. Assuming that it does, remove the
software and start over. Ist step for me would be to call customer
support and scream at them until my voice gave out.
