So, has anyone tried out the new 600 or 650 TV Wonders? I'm
considering retiring my old USB 2.0 tuner to try out HD. Any advice
on alternate software is welcome, too.

Haven't tried the newer cards but this is great software for OTA, at least.
I run an HDTV Wonder with it and an AIW with MMC. Can capture with the AIW
and silent record HD simultaneously. P4-2.4GHZ. Silent record takes very
little resources. It's a free program at the moment. Simple but functional

Free programs DvrmsEidtor plus DVR2MPG can be used to edit and convert to
MPG or HDTV2MPG(which despite it's name only does .TS) to edit the whole .TS
file that's received. Google for those 3 files if needed.

A possibly more reliable unit that has been around for a long time, and
periodically upgraded, is the Hauppauge WinTV PVR 2.0 USB. I've been using
mine a lot for the last several months and love it. They also make many
other internal and external models.

I've had a pci 650 for about a year and when it works it has a great
picture. That said the Catalyst Media Center software is a steaming pile of
crap that I hate with a fiery passion, and it will usually only work a
couple of times before I have to spend my time fiddling with it to get it to
work again. I will no longer use that software as I enjoy being somewhat
sane. I would stay far far away from the driver that comes with the cd
(assuming they haven't changed it).

I currently use WatchHdtv http://watchhdtv.net/ it is free and works fairly
good. You will have to set up the channels on it manually but that is fairly
easy and only takes a minute or two. The only reason I still have CMC
installed on my computer is that I can use the Cyberlink decoders that came
with it in WatchHdtv. Or you can also use ffdshow to decode it (I am doing
that right now).
