TV tuner faulty?

I have a four week old ATI 9800SE All In Wonder card, UK version. I have
been gradually using all of it's facilities. Everything worked fine with the
latest downloaded ATI drivers. The final one to use was "video in" from my
VCR. The computer screen immediately went blank and I had to reboot. Now the
TV function is not working and when scanning the TV channels again it gives
a not found message for each channel number. However although getting no
picture I do still get the TV sound. Video in from my digital video camera
is also not showing any picture either when using composite or S-Video. All
the other card functions including playing a VCD or a video file from my HD.
Has the card failed or is there another explanation?
Derek.

did you also download and install the wdm drivers in the correct order?
look in device manager sound video and game controllers, if even 1 of the
6 ati devices are not functioning, uninstall them all and reinstall the
wdm drivers, dont reboot, then reinstall the ati video driver and reboot.

Sounds like a video overlay issue. Uninstall MMC and make sure you have DX9
and the latest version of DAO installed...re-install MMC, reboot and you
should have everything working again.

All six ATI devices are reported to be working properly.

What is DAO? When I first installed the card, TV tuner did not work with
DirectX9, I did a search on the MS knowledge base and found that DX9 was
only for Japanese TV tuners. I then instsalled a modified version from the
MS site :-
DirectX9b-KB825116-x86-ENU and the tuner then worked until yesterday.

They are available on the ATI website along with MMC current version. I
assume you have not visited the ATI support webpage for your videocard,
otherwise you would have known that DX9 and DAO are prerequisites for ATI
MMC. MS knowledgebase does not claim that DX9 is only required for Japanese
TV tuners; Japan and the US both use NTSC tuners, so if it were required
for Japan, it would be required for the US card, also. DX9 and DAO must be
installed PRIOR to installation of the ATI MMC.

I downloaded all my drivers plus the latest version of MMC 8.9.00 earlier
this week from the ATI site. I uninstalled MMC today and reloaded it but the
problem remains. I remain convinced that it is the tuner that is at fault.
Remember that the UK uses the PAL system not NTSC.
The MS site has a warning about DX9.0.B

That's not a warning, it's an informational document with a link to the
patch that fixes the problem. Did you install the patch?

Yes on day one when I found that I had no TV picture.
