tv signal goes out

i have the sony viao vgc-ra710g which has media center. i am having a problem
with My TV. The problem is i get the basic cable channels but not HBO or
Showtime. The pay channels are greyed out or flicker as if their scrambled.
Does the supplied tuner card support digital signals. Is this a problem that
im having because i have the signal split between the tv and the computer?

Greg is correct about the channels being encrypted. In the US; however, the
last time I researched it, the end frame signals were taken of the NTSC
signal. One test you can try is to connect your cablebox to your computer.

Do the premium channels appear correctly? If so you'll do to set a cablebox
specifically for your computer. If your using your computer to also record
tv then you might need to look into getting and IR Blaster which will allow
you to change the channel on the cablebox from the computer. I
unfortuantely have never used a PC IR blaster, and I'm not sure if they
exist; however, they do exist for things like the Tivo and I'd be surprised
if some company has never made one.

If you're still getting the flickering even through the cablebox, post a
reply stating that and maybe the issue can be diagnosed to something else.
I'd have to say that the issue is more than likely the result of not
connecting to a cablebox.
