Tv-out trouble.

I tried to use the tv-out function and set my tv as a secondary screen. It
didn't work but thats not my problem. Ever since then I'm getting a
chess-pattern of blue squares all over my computer monitor. Every document I
open, every program i use and right now, in internet explorer, too. Has this
occured to anyone else? I've tried a systems reset and updated the drivers
for my graphics card, but nothing helps.
Is the problem with my Vista or my graphic card?
I'm using Vista Business 32 and GeForce 8600 GTS.

I'd appreciate any help.

Did you plug in the TV out with the PC off?
Most cards need rebooted to see a new monitor connection.
Plus plugging in while a PC is on is hazardous to your PC.

I just learned what the problem is. The graphics card got overheated and
burned out when I tried to establish the tv-out connection. I'm using an
Antec micro-chassi and apparently the graphics card is so close to the
processor that it gets very hot. I don't know if it's true or not since I've
played games for hours and had the PC on for days before without any problems
so trying to set up a secondary screen shouldn't make the card burn... Maybe
it was something wrong with the cable, short circuit or something...

What do you guys think?

Subject to the house wiring being modern and correct your PC chassis is
probably grounded, your TV being only a 2 prong plug probably not.

If you brush against the screen when on or even more when recently
turned off you will feel the hairs on your arm stand up due to the
static produced by the TV. It is possible that a build up of static (It
can last for hours even with the TV off) discharged via the graphics
card connector and took out some chip or other.

Same problem her hand caused a spark, probably wearing plastic soled
shoes, dry atmosphere, synthetic car seats, wool sweater. 30,000 Volts
when she got back out the car. S'why there's a sign up saying touch the
car body AWAY from the gas filler if you get in and out while fuelling.

If you try again I suggest you touch both the computer case and any
metal connectors you can on the TV connector before making the
connection. Always best not to walk on synthetic carpet etc when working
on electronics.
