Turn off computer problem

L

Len Urban

Occasionally, I play the spider solitaire game that is included with Windows
XP. If I close out the game and later go to start and attempt to close down
the computer a window appears with the following title "End Program Card
Reader Look up Window". The message contained in the window is "This program
is not responding" followed by an option to either "End now" or cancel. In
order to close down the computer it is necessary to select "End now".

Why does this window appear when I have already closed the solitaire
program?

Thanks,

Len Urban

Didn't you post about this problem back in February? Was it ever resolved
then? Do you know for sure this is tied to the spider solitaire game? Does
it happen if you do a clean boot (boot with nothing starting up), don't run
any other programs, open spider solitaire, close it, then log off? Here are
some links on how to do clean boot troubleshooting:

Look in event viewer for any error reports and post them here.

From a Google search here is a link to one person who had this problem.

There was an error entry in Event viewer linked to this MS knowledge base

I did post in February but I did not think I had a response and stopped
looking after a while. If I overlooked a response I apologize.

I have further isolated the problem have determined it only occurs when I
open spider solitaire from the recent document menu. It does not occur when
I open it from the games program on the all programs list.

Ok, I was just wondering if the original problem had been resolved and this
was a new one, or the problem has been ongoing. I did not see a definitive
solution in that thread, just trying to get clarification.

Did you try removing the games through Add/Remove programs | windows
components, then adding them back?

Is Spider Solitaire part of the Windows package of games or a separate
programme?

Not that I disagree with the broad thrust of your suggestion.

Actually Gerry, good question because I'm not sure. I'm running Vista right
now, and it's installed with Vista, so I didn't think about whether it was
on XP. I have never used it so I don't know.

Ok just checked, it's there on my XP Pro SP2 system.

I'm stuck on the old solitaire.

Well I did not find the source of my problem but I made it go away by
deleting the spider solitaire program from the "Recent Programs Menu" and
starting it from the All Programs menu. Now when I select it from the
"Recent Programs Menu" and run the program. I do not get the message at turn
off.

I am getting a system error one minute and 48 seconds after turn on. It is
error 7011. Where can I find a list of error message definitions?

Another strange event. Some where along the line when I was running various
configurations I got the same turn off problem. This time it was for a
program called

CireolUIWndFrame.

Thanks for your help

Ok, good, glad you found a resolution and thanks for posting it back. Let's
hope it stays fixed.

Can you be more specific? When does this message appear, in what format,
and what exactly is the message?

Google gives no hits on this. Again the same troubleshooting tips apply.
Does it happen in same mode? If not boot clean and logoff immediately?
Does it happen? If not do some clean boot troubleshooting. I gave you the
links for how to do that in a previous post. Good luck.
Thanks for your help

You're welcome.

Thanks Gerry

I went to the site you suggested and got the listing for 7011. There were
numerous causes and fixes. Most of which require an in depth understanding
of the XP operating system. I'm more apt to do more harm then good if I
start making changes at this level. Since I'm not having any apparent
problems at this time I am going to ignore these errors for now.

It may be causing my computer to be slow in turning on (1.5 minutes). I've
done all the normal system maintenance steps with no help.

Well at least now I know about event viewing.

Thanks again,

Len

Have you done clean boot troubleshooting? Does it happen in safe mode?

No where do I find out about clean boot troubleshooting?

I haven't tried the save mode.
