TurboTax problems in XP Home SP-2

J

Jeff

This year I decided to try using TurboTax instead of Taxcut. I therefore
purchased and installed TurboTax Premier. It installed and ran just fine.
However it will not import my Taxcut file from last year. The box says it
should be able to.

I am running it on XP Home SP-2, fast (2.66 GHz ) Pentium 4 laptop with 512
RAM. When I tried to import last year's data from Taxcut's 03 files, I
could not do so and get an error.

The error popup is titled "ttxctbti.exe" and says:
"ttxctbti.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience".

When I click for additional information I get:
AppName: ttxctbti.exe
AppVer: 0.0.0.0
ModName: ttxctbti.exe
ModVer: 0.0.0.0
Offset: 0002351c

When I click OK, I get a window saying "Transfer incomplete. Internal
Error".

I would not have purchased TT if I knew it would have trouble importing my
2003 data from Taxcut. I was even more annoyed when I found that to call
Intuit's help line to solve this technical problem with their own software
it would cost me $10! I remember that calling Taxcut's technical help line
was free. Searching on their support webpage for ttxctbti.exe and other
similar keywords yields nothing. I am seriously considering returning
TurboTax and going back to Taxcut which ran wih no problems for me.

Any suggestions how I can fix this problem?

It would be a pain to go back to the store and return all this stuff. The
rest of the program seems to work fine.

Thank you.

Yes, I know. I put a message there, but unlike this newslist, I am still
waiting for an answer.

Actually I found something on the TurboTax website describing my error.
Their suggested "solution": update your TurboTax. So I went to their update
site and it told me my version was the latest version. Classic "Catch-22"
if you are old enough to remember that.

What a pain!

Return it to Intuit and get a refund. I doubt the store where you
purchased it will accept an opened package. Go back to either
Tax Cut or switch to Tax Act. Turbo Tax has not worked right since
they came out with their infamous activation scheme (which they have
since got rid of).

anyone

These are the same folks who brought us all activation for tax software a
couple of years ago. New computer at Christmas that year (one activation
problem), the computer was a dog so I returned it and went back to my old
computer (two activation problems), and then I had to do a reinstall prior
to April (three activations). All this for $25.00 software to do a short
term job. Activations drove me crazy so I bought TaxCut the next year and
never looked back.Taxcut was also cheaper and had all the features most need
to fill a return.

A thoroughly disgruntled Turbotax user who was previously a MacInTax user
(same company) for close to ten years. Guess what software I'm using for
taxes this year?

I think I will be returning it. Will just wait a few days more and then
call them.

I agree with everyone else to return it and use something that works,
and add that all the software I've seen from Intuit for the last ten
years has been problematic crap, regardless of OS version, patches,
fixes, etc.

I am having problems getting TT 2004 to run on XP, as are many others judging
by the number of posts at the TT support site. Intalls, but doesn't run. No
help from their paid support guy either!

Sadly, this has been the norm with anything from Intuit for several
years. Turbo Tax has been plagued with problems since from two years
ago during their "infamous" activation scheme which failed miserably.
I would strongly suggest you return your copy to Intuit and ask for
your money to be refunded.

There are other alternatives to TT which are better. You might want
to try "TaxCut" instead. www.taxcut.com. TaxCut is published by
H.R. Block.
