In the last few weeks, some of my TSR icons do not appear
in the system tray. The TSR programs are loaded and
running, but I have no access to them from the system
tray. If I reboot, they may or may not show up again. I
have been running XP for quite some time now and have
never had this problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Some of the Symantec Norton 2004 products will cause
Taskbar icons to magically disappear. I haven't checked
lately, but you can do a search on Symantec's website &
and use "Task Bar" as the search string.

XP can be set to automatically "hide" icons from the system tray. Right
click on the Start bar -> Properties -> See if "Hide Inactive Icons" is
ticked, then you can also choose Customise to select which to automaically
hide, which to keep shown, or which to hide full stop. If this doesn't
solve your problem, open up the XP Task Manager (right click on Start bar)
and see if those applications are still running (look for the .exe name of
the program). If its not, then thats why it's not running. If it is, then
you may need to re-install those applications.

FYI: The concept of TSRs doesn't really apply to XP. In MSDOS "TSR"s were
so-called as the Operating System wasn't multi-tasking, and was only
supposed to run one main program at a time. Programmers were able to create
very small applications that would hang around though, hence TSRs. In XP
things are different, and "applications" don't always have to be stopped,
and neither is there one "main" app.
