TS2003 Licensing Questions

Jonathan Harding

I have two enquiries reguarding Terminal Server 2003.

Firstly, what is the current level of support for User
Based CAL's? I was told it would be supported by W2K3 SP1,
can anyone confirm?

Secondly. What is the default behaviour for assigning
Terminal Server 2003 Device CALS to the various Windows
platforms.

I am seeing Perminent Liceses being assigned to W2K, XP
machines, but only Temporary Licenses assigned to Windows
98 machines. Is the default behaviour to assign temporary
licenses first, and perminent licenses when the temporary
one expires? Or wont a 98 machine take a perminent license?

Cheers,
Jonathan

First Question -
Per User licensing is not enforced in SP1.

Second Question -
When a client connects the first time, it gets a Temporary license.
Once the temporary gets marked as authenticated post client logon. The
next time the client connects, the marked temporary is upgraded to
permanent.
