TermServer 2003 Licensing

Hello all -

I implemented our 2003 Terminal Server back in December of 2003 with the
Terminal Server Licensing component installed on directly on the Terminal
Server itself. I then added 3 separate Windows Server 2003 - Terminal
Server Per User CAL Token licenses, each for 20 users. However, all users
who log on seem to receive or be added to the Temporary License for Windows
Server 2003 - Terminal Server Per Device CAL token group. I now have 72
temporary license issued to about 20 different users and they are due to
begin to expire in 2 weeks. We have 60 USER CAL license installed, how do I
move these TEMP licenses to the installed CAL licenses? Did I mis-configure
something when I implemented this server?

I followed the Q article but one question - Once I create the new keys - and
the default data key is in there - Do simply edit the value to the IP or
FQDN?

You should have a Key named "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermService\Parameters\LicenseServers\%computername

i.e. if the NetBIOS Name of your TS is named TS1, the registry key is

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermService\Parameters\LicenseServers\TS

And after implementing Patricks recommendation, make sure that the
Terminal Server (not the Licensing Server!) is set to use "Per
User" licensing! The default is "Per Device".
You can check this from Administrative Tools - Terminal Services
Configuration - Server Settings
If it's set to Per Device mode, it will look for a Device TS CAL
and will not issue your Per User TS CALs.

Check this article, it explains that even after you have
switched licensing mode on the TS, your Per User TS CAL count will
not be decremented:
