trying to share files without GUEST

J

jp

I've got 2 systems with XP Pro. They are both configured with the same
users/passwords and are in the same workgroup, and they both have simple
file sharing disabled. On both, the Local Security Setting for "Network
Access: Sharing and security model for local acounts" is "Classis - local
users authenticate as themselves".

I can share files fine as long as I give GUEST full access to the shared
folders. If try maping a drive using any user/password, it just uses GUEST
anyway. If I disable GUEST, I can't access files at all.

I really don't want to leave both systems with GUEST having full access.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

As long as you have Guest access allowed, proper authnetication won't
happen even if you are using the same username/password on both machines.
What's the error message that you get when you disable guest account? Try
disabling the guest account, then reboot both boxes, login with the same
username/password on both boxes and try to access the files.
