Trying to setup a Newsreader in Outlook Express

J

James

I have tried and tried to setup a newsreader in outlook express in
vain. I always get the message
"the server could not be found", so maybe my Outlook Express isn`t
working correctly. Is it
possible to setup a Newsreader in Hotmail or Yahoo Mail or is there
another place on there
any place on the internet to setup a newsreader? I dont think it would
work well for our
microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics newsgroup, but I also am a member of
alt.music.gospel.southern and it would work there other members there
use a newsreader, if I could set it up.

Try this one first. Scroll down to windowsxp basics (Which is
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics) and click on
windowsxp basics.

Hi James,

What are you using as servers? For instance, this group should use

I tried for several minutes Wes, and I couldn`t get a newareader setup
for alt.music.gospel.southern- which is also on Google. If you have
anymore suggestions,
I could use them and thanks in advance.

These groups are hosted on the msnnews.msn.com server. No subscription
fee or password is necessary.

MSN no longer has a server for common Usenet groups like
alt.music.gospel.southern . The Google server is web based only. Check
with your ISP (if not MSN) to see if they have a Usenet news server.

Well, I don`t seem to be able to setup a news reader at all, and I find
on Google help
it says this-" Can I use a newsreader (e.g. Outlook Express, Netscape
Messenger) to access Google Groups?

Sorry, you can't use a regular newsreader to access our service. You
can, however, access Google Groups from most web browsers.

You can also subscribe to a Usenet newsgroup. Simply join the newsgroup
and select how you'd like to be emailed when new content is posted to
the group. You can receive a daily summary of posts or a digest with
the full text of the posts. If you select the full digest, you'll
receive one digest email for every 25 messages posted to the group.

I have had other members tell me they use news readers, but since Google
said this, I don`t know how.

Does your ISP have newsgroups, you have to use a newsgroup provider. You can
try the free ones, but they limit your access or subscribe to a unlimited
newsgroup provider like Supernews.
Google for free newsgroup providers, newsgroup providers.
You can get the public Microsoft newsgroups by following the step by step
guide in link in my signature.

OE can't find the server that you specified. This is your error.
