Trying to open exe file

I have an exe file I want to open and when I hit "run program" I get the
message a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will
close the program and send a solution of they have one. I have had no
solution. I've tried turning off my virus program, tried saving it to my
documents and opening it as an administrator. Nothing has worked.

I ran this program before on Vista with no problems but I had to reinstall
Vista due to another computer problem and I want this exe program.

Is it possible the exe file has been corrupted?
Do you have another copy somewhere?
If it worked before, it should work again, unless other software or updates
have broken the functionality.

Would you mind telling us the name of the program? Have you contacted the
developer about Vista compatibility, support, updates or patches? Is it
possible you could try running the application as an Administrator? Right
click the .exe file, on the contextual menu, click 'Run as Administrator'.

If that does not work, try running in Compatibility mode, right click the
..exe again, click Properties > Compatibility (tab) > check the 'Run this
program in compatibility mode for:" box click in the list box and select an
appropriate version of Windows the program is known to run on.

Also, check the Problem Reports and Solutions applet (All Programs >
Maintenance) to see if there are any solutions available.

I've checked problems and solutions and it is empty. This is a word game program that I play through email. I got the program through another player of the game. I also have a copy of it on my laptop and it works great there. It came to me by attachment in an email. I have saved it to my documents, changed it to run by administrator and put the compatibility to Windows 98 as I know it's an old program. When I try to open it this way I get the little blue circle spinning as if it's doing something then I hear a ping and then nothing.

If I try to do again I get the message "there is already an application of
this running"

If I search in Explorer for it, the location it gives me is the one in My
Documents.
Before it was listed in my programs under Hasbro as it is a Hasbro program
that is no longer available. It doesn't appear it has been downloaded as
a program.

I am a real computer novice so have trouble explaining myself. Sorry.

Like I said, I'm a novice and a senior to boot. The idea of downloading a
virtual machine is scary to me. I"m not sure I would be able to handle it.

Based on the above, it sounds like you actually
had this program installed before and now have only
the program EXE file. Is that possible? If so then
you'll need to find the full program installer, which is
not the same as the program EXE. It may be that
the EXE is starting up and stalling because it can't find
necessary settings or files that a full installation
would have copied onto your machine.

Its not that hard at all MarianH. :) Just like how you would install that
Game, its the same way you would setup the Virtual Machine program. You
download it it, double click the installer, click Next, Accept you personal
information click Next and let the installer do its thing and it will say
the Virtual Machine program has been successfully installed.

For the setting up of an operating system such as Windows 98, I will refer
