Trying to move data from W98 to New PC w/Vista

My query is: If I put my old Win98 Hard drive in an 'enclosure', plug it into
my new box, as a Desktop drive, can I use Win Easy Transfer to move settings,
etc., as well as fourty-'leven gigs of WMP video-clips (among other data) to
Vista?
As far as I can tell, this is my only option - and I have all the gear.
It should be known, I am not without some skills, but no whiz at this kind
of thing.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

the video clips are just files.. you can copy them without a problem..

that drive will be like a drive installed on vista even though you will have
it in an enclosure..

you can even leave it on there

as for the other settings I am not sure since I always do this manually

Windows Easy Transfer only works with Windows 2000 and Windows XP. I suggest
manually backing up the data manually by burning to to Disk or put it on a
secondary disk drive, then attach it to the computer running Vista then copy
over your data.

As mentioned above Easy Transfer will not work.

But I'm a manual type of guy and all the data can be simply copied.
And it's the data that's important, not the programs and not the settings.

The only thing that requires cleverness is Outlook Express downloaded email.
Oh ... and I sure hope you didn't use AOL. That's a bear to convert.

Thanks much! I was hoping like h... that would be the case. It's by far the
biggest part.
Thnx again!

Thanks, Richard.

No, Easy Transfer won't support either Windows 98 or an existing drive
connected to your computer.

Andre,
Yah, I covered w/ the 'outboard' drive. I was just hoping I could use the MS
Migr. tool for settings and Bookmarks and such. It looks like I cannot - at
least so far.
Thanks!

Sorry about that, 98 is so far up in the legacy chain its pretty hard to
support such technologies as WET on such an architecture. If you got a trial
of Windows 2000 maybe you could upgrade your 98 PC to it then run WET. If
you lived near me I would give you my XP Pro trial.

What a guy! I do appreciate your validation re: I can mount my old
hard-drive. I should then be able to drag/drop my WMP video files from old
drive to new - True?
Stuff like Outlook address book, etc., I can populate as I have time, but
the gazillion clips (I'm a bit into Indie movies + a couple of friends make
them) was daunting. Again, Andre, many thanks!
BTW, near where DO you live? If it's a lot warmer than SE Michigan, just
now, I might temporarily relocate! A little humor, there.
Be well and have fun!

Hi Tim,

I live in Caribbean - Jamaica W.I. :) Oh yeah, its warm too!
