Trying to install HP officejet 6110

Zachary

We have been tryring to install an HP Printer (6110
allinone). They have said that it is a microsoft
issue/windows xp issue within our dell operating system.
We now need to find the patch that fixes the installation
problem. Does anyone know where that is and have you ever
experienced this problem?

Thanks!

1. Physically disconnect your printer from your computer.
2. Open your Control Panel and uninstall any HP printer software
listed in the Add or Remove Programs applet.
3. Go to Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes, right-click
on any printer icons and select "delete".
4. Visit www.hp.com and download the latest Windows XP
compatible software/drivers for your specific printer model.
5. Install the software drivers per HP's instructions.
6. Reconnect your printer to your computer.

Have you checked the HP and Dell websites for a solution,
or perhaps a new driver? Often times a manufacturer will
have a solution available before it becomes signed by
Microsoft.

Hi Zachary -

First and foremost: you must be using a Windows XP-designed driver with your
all-in-one. This does not appear to be your problem as the HP site
identifies that it ships with an XP driver on CD. If you don't have a
driver CD you will probably want to order one from HP - the driver is
greater than 166 megabytes in size and will take many, many hours to
download if you aren't using a broadband connection (and, even with
broadband, is quite a large download to accomplish). The driver page for
your unit is:

http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwa...osoft Windows XP&sw_lang=en&pagetype=software

(link will probably wrap onto two or more lines)

There is an issue with the driver file usbscan.sys that ships with Windows
XP. Basically, if you attempt to install a multi-function device, such as
your all-in-one printer, scanner and copier and the scanner isn't the first
device detected by Windows, the printer and copier functions will work, but
the scanner won't.

Microsoft has identified this to be a problem and has a fix available.
Check the following article on Microsoft's Knowledge Base:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320549&Product=winxp

(link may wrap)

In any event, the fix is not available for download - you have to contact
Microsoft Support directly to obtain it. If you are only requesting the
updated driver file there will be no charge from Microsoft Support in order
to obtain it (you simply explain that you need the fix because you have a
multi-function device where the scanner is not the first interface of the
device and they will supply the driver for you via e-mail).

Hopefully this helps you fix your problem.

Jef
