trying to install camera driver

i am trying to install the driver of a digital camera
it is not compatible with windows xp hardwae
but i have the driver on the original cd
this is a Nikon View ver.3 coolpix 990 digital camera
and i want it to connect via USB
i do the installation with the driver
and i get the following error window:
Nikon View ver.3
Error installing iKernel.exe: (0x10000)
what should i do?

Just use windows native software. Don't install the cameras software and if
you did, uninstall it.

Nikon View version 6.1.0 for the Coolpic 990 is available for download from
Nikon Support.

Another option is to use a card reader, and don't install any software. This
is quicker than loading thru the camera, and does not use the camera
battery. Right now Office Max has a reader that is free after the rebate.
