Trying to install a new copy of XP over windows 98SE

Have tried 4 times and keep getting the error message
535FF58h another version of this product is already
running. Do they mean windows 98SE? There is definately
not another version of windows XP running. There does not
seem to be any way I can over ride this issue.

Is this an OEM version, or a full retail verison. Full install or upgrade?
