I am upgrading from windows 98se to windows xp and I would like to know if
the ms dos programs that are running in in 98se will still run in xp? The
program is written in D Base and there is no vendor support for this version.

Thanks

Don't count on it - try it out on a friends computer first.
I run into similar issues everyday upgradinng small business computers and
trying to transfer thier old software, I usually have to take their old
hardrive out and put it in with the new comp and give explicit instructions
to go back to the other OP to start thier DOS based accounting packages.

Dbase and Foxpro both are compatible with Windows XP but the software develop
under them can cause a problem. This could be because of FILES = statement
under Config.sys file of Windows 98. See if there is such configuration in
your Config.sys.

I have some softwares developed under Foxpro, which runs without any problem
but I have a program called "TallY" version 4.5, which runs properly in
Windows 98 but not in Windows XP because of that FILE statement in CONFIG.SYS.

Now, I am using Microsoft Virtual Machine to run that program under Windows
XP.

Hope this information helps you, let us know!

Some will and some won't. It depends on the program.

The program is written in D Base and there is no vendor
support for this version.

You'll probably have to try it to find out.

Similar config of FILES= to config.sys can be made to config.nt right
on %win_dir%\system32.
