Trying to fix a RealTek AC 97 Driver

I am trying to re-install/repair my drivers after having some computer
troubles and having to reinstall Windows altogether. Unfortunately during
installation (both from a driver website and my CD) I get these messages:


Internal Error Error Number: 0x80040707 Description:

I get that twice, then just when it looks like the installshield wizard is
about to start....

Component Transfer Error Unknown Error

When trying to test DirectSound through dxdiag I get this:

DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT =
0x80070057 (Invalid argument(s))
