Trying to create an automated install.

Maybe I have too much time on my hands, but when I'm not
happy with my OS, I quickly wipe it out and reinstall.
The most time consuming for me is reloading the updates,
drivers and various programs.
I know I can't get around the programs, but I am looking
into an automated install. I think I have all my ducks in
a row, except the updates.
Would I just take what I currently have in my Windows
folder, and if so....which one?
There a series at the beginning of the Windows folder,
and also in Windows\WinSxS. Or, do I download fresh from
the site?

its not as simple as that.

because you arent supporting a network, or distirbuting
to multiple computers, the best thing for you is to get a
copy of norton's ghost.

then what you can do is format, install windows, install
updates, install necessary programs, configure as
necessary, then make an image of your HD via ghost.

then whenever you get bored or whatever of your current
install, just reformat with the ghost image.

i dont know the exact specifics (you may need a second HD
to store the image on, so that you can wipe the boot
drive) but ghost is the program you are looking for.

Actually, I already have a back up of one of my old set
ups on Norton's Ghost. I think it takes about the same
amount of time, and then I'm where I was year ago.
I'm always searching for the perfect install (as in
moving the page file, large programs and My Documents on
a seperate drive), and last year is far from my best.
Thinking I'd like to try an automated install, I'm sure
in the long run it will save me time...and frustration.

well then why not just make a new ghost image? of course
it wouldnt make sense to use a year old image. so why
not make a new one and replace your old one?

if you are looking to be as specific as moving the page
file and other advanced taks, then im not sure youll be
able to find a solution that does EVERYTHING you want it
to.

unattended installs are good, but they are really geared
towards network deployments, as it streamlines the
process, and cuts down on the time needed for the admins
to physically sit at each computer.
