Hi! I'm new to Word but am learning. I've created a form that is 5
pages long. I'd like to be able to type text into that form on page
one WITHOUT moving everything down a line on page two. How can I
preventthis? Thanks!! Tom

On each page, insert a table. Place the unchanging text and each form field in a
separate cell.

Then select the whole table, go to Table > Table Properties > Row, and set an
Exact measurement for the row height. By selecting the table first, you'll be
setting all the rows to the same height with one click, rather than having to
set each row individually.

Finally, click Table > AutoFit > Fixed Column Width. Protect the document for
forms.

The settings for the table will prevent any form field from expanding beyond the
size of its cell, so nothing else will move. The drawback, if it is one, is that
you can continue to type text into a form field that's already at its maximum
size, and the text and cursor will just disappear below the bottom edge of the
cell.

THANKS, JAY! I've done it. First time ever using tables. Tom

I have one further question. When I create and define a table for a
form, I seem unable to place text outside of that box to the right of
the table. I can put text above or below that table but I'd like to
use the open space to the right. Thanks!

In order to do that, you'd need to wrap the table, which might cause
additional problems (it will certainly make the table a lot less predictable
to deal with, and wrapped tables are not as backward-compatible as inline
ones). A better solution would probably be to add another column to the
table and use that (with cells merged vertically if necessary). Keep in
mind, if you're using table borders, that tables don't have to have borders,
and any part of the table that isn't bordered won't appear to be part of the
table.
