I've been trying so many times to build a network between
an XP and a 98 omputer, but it just won't work.
First it's like a one-way network. the Xp(PRO) can get
from the 98 as it wants but not the opposite. because it
didn't have permission. So i was working on solving that
problem until it got worse. Now both of them can't find
each other.
Could somebody please help me out here.

On any XP Pro computer, check to see if Simple File Sharing (Control Panel -
Folder Options - View - Advanced settings) is enabled or disabled. With XP Pro,
you need to have the SFS settings properly set on each computer.
With XP Pro, if SFS is disabled, check the Local Security Policy (Control Panel
- Administrative Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at
"Network access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".
With XP Pro, if you set the Local Security Policy to "Guest only", make sure
that the Guest account is enabled, thru Local User Manager (Start - Run -
"lusrmgr.msc"). If "Classic", setup and use a common non-Guest account, with
identical, non-blank, password on both computers.
For XP Pro with Simple File Sharing enabled, make sure that the Guest account is
enabled, using the Local User Manager (Start - Run - "lusrmgr.msc").
Whichever you choose to use on the XP computer (Guest or non-Guest), set a
non-blank password on the account there. Then use that same account, with
identical password, when logging in to the Win 98 computer.
