I am trying to set up computers that are running on a small business network.
We need to share folders that are on the desktop but when we set them up to
be shared they are not recognized by the other computers. There are a few
computers that are working but our newer computers are not.

The most important information you need to supply:

- What operating system, including service pack level, is on *each* of
the computers (e.g., XP Pro, Vista Business, etc.)
- Do you have a domain or are you just sharing files between non-server
workstations?
- How many computers?
- What firewall and antivirus applications are on *each* of the computers?
- How are the computers physically networked (i.e., what are they
connected to and is the connection wired or wireless)?
- What have you done so far (in some detail, please)
- What error messages have you received on your "newer computers"
(please post verbatim)

More info may be required, but that's a start.

.
-All of these computers are running Windows xp professional service pack 3.
-We currently have the firewall turned off on of them
-They are set up on a domain
-Most of the computers that are not working are Panasonic Toughbooks.
-There are 20 computers on the network
-I have went into the local security settings and tried to change a few of
them but i switched those all back to the current settings.
-we are not receiving any error messages.
-we are trying to map a network drive to folders that are needed and nothing
on the computers can be seen.
-the toughbooks are wireless but even when they are wired they can still not
be seen.

If you are in a Domain, like you say
These permissions are probably set with a gp on the domain server.
and you'd need to have file in print sharing enabled.

HOWEVER in a Domain, Don't do this!
IMO you shouldn't share PC Drives in a domain
Move the folders/files to the Server
(so they get backed up)
and create a LINK to them on each persons desktop.
(If they need them offline use folder sync)

Next, I would NOT recommend turning OFF Windows firewall
(There is security reasons for having it on, and no reason to have it off.)

And hopefully you have AV on each PC and servers.
