Trouble with Timing on PP show

Hi,
I'm having a problem with my PowerPoint Show. I want it to move from slide
to slide automatically - and I got it to do that, but it does it too slowly.
I did the "rehearse timing" thing and put between 4 and 6 seconds for each
slide (It's a very short presentation of only 4 slides, it's announcing a
meeting so there's not a lot of info on each slide) but it's going more like
25 - 35 seconds between each slide which is just waaay too long.
I tried going to "slideshow" then "transition"
and picking "automatic after ___ " and entering 6 seconds, but it still
doesn't work.
I also tried going to "slideshow" and then "setup" and choosing "loop
continuously until 'esc' ", but still no go .
What can I do??
Thanks, Meenie

When you did the rehearse timing, did you record narration? If so, it could
be that the sounds that were recorded are longer than you think they are.

Another thing to check is your animation timeline. If your animations are
running longer than your transition time, your slides won't transition when
you expect them to. Transitions always happen after all animation effects.

When you set the transition time, did you click apply to all? If not, try
that and see if the slides move any better.

One final idea: Does the presentation run faster on the second run through
than the first? If so, the delays may be in loading the slides. Are they
stored on your hard drive or on a CD?

Lots of questions, I know... Let us know if any of it helps....

Hi Kathy,
I think we're on the right track with the Animation Timeline.
I have a different animation and a different sound (music) on each slide.
I think that's the problem. The slide wants to wait for the entire song to
finish playing before it moves to the next slide.
When I went to custom animation and started messing around in there, I could
get the slides to transition in the timeframe I want, but the music doesn't
work right.
I guess I can't have different music on each slide?

You can have different music on each slide, but it will start the music over
every time the slide is shown. Which do you want more: the music to change
on each slide or the slides to change when you want them to?

If you want the slides to change when you want them to, then either pick one
piece of music or merge all the music into one file. If you want the music
to change with each slide, then you will need to live with the longer time
on each slide.

Does that make sense?

Wow, thanks Kathy. I took the music out and added just one back to play
through the whole thing and it seemed to work fine. But then I sent it to
someone and she said she doesn't hear the music... boohoo.
Any idea why that might be?
I know she has her speakers on because she'd listened to the one I made
earlier and even though it didn't work correctly, she could hear the music! :)

Ok... Did you send the music with the presentation? See this entry from the
PPT FAQ for some more things to check:
Sounds/Movies don't play, images disappear or links break when I move or
email a presentation

Hmmm... the sound I used is a Midi, only 11 kb. Shouldn't midi's play ok?
If I send the sound also, what does the ricipient need to do with the midi
file?

MIDI's are linked. The only media that is embedded in PPT presentations are
WAV files. (And those only up to a certain size.)
Unless you had your MIDI file in the same folder as your PPT presentation
before you linked to it, you will need to re-build the link before you send
it. Read the information on the page in my previous post to learn why the
sound won't play and how to fix it.
