Trouble with System Restore

When I run System Restore and click on Restore to an
earlier point, the next window contains the message
that "There are no restore points created yet for this
day. To restore immediately, pick another day and restore
point, and then try again." However, no days are shown,
there is no button available to show the calander that
used to be available. Then if I click Create Restore
point, and create a restore point, I get the same message
when I try to restore to an earlier point. It seems that
my System Restore no longer works. WHat should I do?

Right click your My Computer desktop shortcut, left click Properties. Click
the System Restore tab. If there is a checkmark to the left of: Turn Off
System Restore, click to remove that checkmark, click the APPLY and OK
buttons, then reboot, and see if System Restore Points can NOW be created
and retained.

But, if there isn't a checkmark to the left of Turn Off System Restore,
click to put one there, which will delete any corrupted Restore Points, then
click the APPLY and OK buttons, and reboot. Then go back and REMOVE the
checkmark to the left of Turn Off System Restore, reboot, and hopefully the
system will begin creating and retaining Restore Points.

See http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;313853

for one possible solution. Other than that, If it has got into trouble,
it is probably sensible to clear it out and let it start clean too.
System Restore. Check 'Disable System Restore', and OK, reboot. Now
have Folder Options - View set to show Hidden files, and *not* Hide
Protected mode ones and delete everything in the System Volume
Information folder on each drive

The refresh its installation - go to windows\inf\sr.inf, right click on
it and take Install

Start SR up again, and I suggest reviewing the settings for each drive.
There is not much point having it enabled on data drives, and on ones
with System or Programs I would reduce the space allotted if more than
say 1GB - I use 500MB, the minimum is 200 which will only handle maybe a
week of points. But the default of 12% of a drive seems too much for
its own good on modern large drives
