I just started having trouble with the size of all the icons, toolbars,
windows, etc. on my computer. I restarted my computer one day because I had
installed updates and had to, and then when I logged in, all of a sudden, the
screen went blank, and everything, other than the background, got way
smaller. The screen resolution and background remain exactly the same,
though. I tried turning off and then turning on my computer again, but it
didn't work. The login screen has the same problem, too. How do I fix this?

If I read you right, your background does not fill the screen?
If so, do you allow the automatic updates to include Hardware updates?
It sounds like you let it install new drivers for your video card.
Open the device manager (System Properties, Hardware, device manger) and go to the video card, then
roll back the driver.

If I am not reading your problem correctly, provide more information.
Remember, we can not see your monitor from where we are.
You have to be very - very descriptive in your problem if we are to provide help.

Look in Display Properties, Settings tab, Advanced button. Is the DPI
setting at "Normal Size"?

Under Appearance tab, is Font size set to Normal?
