Is there any simple way (utility/ ? ) to get XP to
REMEMBER my icon arrangement on my desktop so that if I
crash, I can click on an icon and "fix" my desktop?

Back in the 98 days, there was a nifty little routine,
"EzDesk" that USUALLY remembered and fixed my icon
arrangement.

Sadly, it's not compatible with XP.

Yes, there is an application, and I use it all the time - when I access my
computer using Remote Desktop on a computer with a different resolution. Its
a simple EXE file that remembers the location of the icons. When you run it
subsequently it moves them to where they were last set.

You can find it here: http://users.rcn.com/taylotr/icon_restore.html

Cheers!

There an edit on Kelly's site to create two right click menu items, one
to save the desktop layout and one to restore it.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 188: Add Save & Restore Desktop Layout to Menu

See the top of the page for info on running the edit.

There are several freeware programs that can do this. I use one called Save
My Desktop.

Thanks! It didn't work at first. Now that I have
fdisked/formatted, and reinstalled my whole system, the
utilty works on a "clean install."

Just found this, and noted that I had not responded
previously. ( I'm doing a hundred other things, and lost it
in the shuffle. Apologies)

Thanks for the help! I downloaded the utility, and it's
working FINE!

It's now on my Install Disk, making it an OFFICIAL utility.

:-)

(as for my hundred other projects, I just had a "proposal'
for my autobiography accepted by an agent.

Whoooooooooooopppppeeeee!

Wish me luck, everyone!)

(and apologies again.)
