Desktop Icons rearrange themselves

Whenever I change my display resolution from it's normal 1280x768 to 800x600
(for some older Windows 98 applications) and then back to 1280x768 I find
that the desktop icons have all rearranged themselves. How do I stop this
undesireable automatic rearrangement of the desktop icons when switching
display resolutions?

I could be proved wrong but I don't think you can, when I change from 1024 x
768 to 800 x 600 it does the same.

That's the way it works, one workaround maybe to have another profile you
can log into then use one profile for swapping resolutions. That way it
doesnt matter to you main profile.

you can't prevent this, unfortunately, but there is a way to add a "Save
Desktop Icon Layout..." and a "Restore..." menu command to the My Computer
icon. Set them the way you like, save it, then when they are messed up
just restore them easily.

google for layout.dll, there are several places that will explain how to
do it.
