Trouble with fonts and icon size

I will have to admit up front that I'm not even close to being an IT
professional...just an average user. However, my hubby is a microsoft
network guru, and he recommended that I put a post to a microsoft newsgroup
to see if someone could help me (he tried...). Please forgive me if this
isn't the right area for this post.

I loaded Hoyle Card games on my laptop the other day, and had no problems
right away. However, eventually all my icons, fonts, desktop dipslay, etc.on
my laptop became HUGE. I tried to shrink everything through the control
panel display area by changing the resolution, and also through QuickSet.
However, while the icons have shrunk somewhat, it now looks like everything
is stretched from side to side, and the fonts are still not back to normal
(whatever the default "normal" is). All the programs on my computer are
affected by this.

I also have an 18 month old who could have changed something when I wasn't
looking, so I'm not necessarily blaming the Hoyle program.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix everything back to the default
sizes and fonts?

Thanks!

Two things you need to check.

-Right click on your desktop and click on Properties.
-Click on the Appearance tab, and make sure the "Font Size" option near
the bottom is set to Normal.
-Then click on the Settings tab.
-Click on the Advanced button
-Under the General tab, make sure "DPI Setting" is set to Normal. If
not, change it to Normal.
-Click Apply and Ok.

Check screen resolution: Display Properties> Settings. Many games reset the
display to 640x480 and when closed fail to return the desktop to the
settings it was using before. Maybe the game reset to a something too wide
in comparison to the vertical and this is causing the squished look? If not
using an extra wide screen the settings should be something like 1024x768,
1280x1024, 1600x1200, etc. The manual for the laptop should list the
recommended settings.
