Trouble with attachment

I e-mailed to friend and sent an attachment yesterday. She received the
e-mail but could not open the attachment. I typed the attachment in Word
2007 and used the File command to mail it. Is there some other way to do it
or is it because it was in Word 2007? We have been used to communicating
and did not have any trouble, but this is a new computer with Vista on it.

The default save for Word 2007 is a file that can only be opened by Word
2007.
Save as a Word 2003-2006 and send it.
