A friend of mine is having trouble starting up windows. She is getting the
following error message upon trying to start her comp up:
Windows could not start because
flwing is missing
corrupt windows root>system32/ntoskrnl.exe
please reinstall a copy of the above file

apart from calling the manufacturer (its a pretty old system and she is not
even sure where she got it), can any one give me any tip on fixing this if
possible.....or is it fried? thank for the help

Flwing is not part of the Windows XP operating system. It's either part of
some program that your friend has starting with Windows, or - and more
likely - it's part of a virus or spyware.

The second issue is discussed here:

"Error Message: Windows Could Not Start Because of a Computer Disk Hardware
Configuration Problem"

k thanks thats what I suspected. I am fairly certain she no longer has the
boot disks. i will have her try the "last known good configuration" first and
work from there.
