Trouble Saving and downloading

I have a home windows xp emachine. I think I have a virus, thus I try t
save and download spyware/virus protectors and when the save/run/ope
file window pops up, it will only pop up for a split second and not le
me save anything.This is real annoying,Ive scanned my computer and i
just tells me, "get a virus protecter". Ive tried almos
everything.....can anyone "please" help me
